Lily Allen Explains Her Drunken Behaviour At Awards Show

Lily Allen has taken to her blog to explain her drunken behaviour at the Glamour Awards which resulted in her being carried out of the event.

The 23-year old rocked up at the glitzy affair with bright pink hair and a controversial dress adorned with a decapitated animal print to collect the Editor’s Special Award.

Despite starting the night in high spirits, the Smile singer ended up inebriated she had to be carried to her car.

Writing on her MySpace blog, she explains: "Last time I wrote (sic) here, I was defending my honour and dignity, explaining my innocence and also outrage at the press for insinuating my behaviour (sunbathing topless while on holiday) was embarrassing.

"This time I'm putting my hands up, I got very drunk last night, too drunk. It's not cool getting that drunk, I feel awful..."

And, although she admits she had a good time, Allen also makes sure to warn others about the dangers of drinking: "Kids, drink responsibly or you'll end up looking like this, not pretty!

"Was quite fun though, from what I can remember."
If you've not yet witnessed photos of Lily's intoxicated state, see the embarrassing snaps here.

Kylie tells Britney to "reach out" for help

Pop singer Kylie Minogue has advised troubled star Britney Spears to "reach out" for whatever help she needs.
Speaking to The Sun, Australian singer Minogue said: "Who knows what is going on in her life? Britney isn't that young anymore. I think she will still come back but it's like she's taken an extended holiday."
She continued: "Whatever help she needs, she should reach out and get it. I wish someone would write a manual about fame because it's not easy."
The singer also said: "I'm always loath to say that because there are a lot more difficulties out there that people deal with every day - but when fame is handed to you, it is unique."
She added: "It's not to the same extreme, but I can remember having a mini-meltdown myself - and unless you've got good people around to support you, you've got a problem."

Floyd returns to cause a stir in Fair City

Radiohead back catalogue finally available on iTunes

Radiohead's seven studio albums are now available to download on iTunes.

The music is available to download alongside recent record 'In Rainbows', which appeared on the portal in January this year.

The Oxford band are one of the last big namers to have their tracks available through iTunes - The Beatles being the last remaining major British band whose music is not available through the service.

Radiohead had abstained from having their music on the music portal as they wanted fans to buy their albums whole - Apple make single tracks available to buy as well as complete albums.

The group however changed their minds after moving labels, from EMI to XL, when releasing 'In Rainbows', which 'officially' came out in January this year after beign available to download free from October 10, 2007.

Radiohead aren't the only band to quibble signing up to iTunes though.

Garth Brooks, who is just behind The Beatles in all-time US record sales, has refused to let his music become available on iTunes.

Much like Radiohead once thought, he believes fans should only be able to download full albums as that is how they were made to be heard.

He told BBC News: "We do albums, we have always done albums."

Brooks then added: "There are a number of issues that need to be addressed in the digital downloading world before we introduce our music to it."

Brooks is not alone though - AC/DC have stopped their material from appearing on iTunes - the band signed an exclusive deal with US mobile phone operator Verizon instead.

Know Your South Asian Art

Courtesy of Christie's
As the euro-smug international art world continues to drop millions on chalet décor at this week's Art Basel in Switzerland, American collectors at the fair — and there are fewer than usual this year — have been talking excitedly about the bargain investment opportunities presented by a relatively untapped market: contemporary Indian art. Pegged as the next phenomenon to catch fire among international collectors, Indian art is also about to receive a prominent platform next Wednesday when work by the hottest artists goes on the block at Christie's South Asian Modern and Contemporary Art auction in London. For those whose grasp of the field doesn't extend beyond Anish Kapoor (who's based in London anyway), here's a quick primer on the heavies of Indian art.

Subodh Gupta
Born in 1964, Gupta is both one of the most recognizable and the most Pop-friendly artists to emerge from the vibrant New Delhi scene — and as a result one of the priciest. Sharing Kapoor's affinity for shiny surfaces, he's best known for building art out of the ubiquitous stainless-steel containers that Indians use for transporting food, either painting them, casting them, or, most striking, forming them into imposing sculptures like Very Hungry God, a gleaming cookware skull. At Christie's another such sculpture is expected to fetch up to $1 million, and a triptych painting of his already sold for that price on Basel's opening day.

Atul Dodiya
A painter and multimedia artist based in Mumbai, Dodiya makes melancholy works that bring together imagery from India's past — Gandhi makes frequent cameo appearances — with the present, such as depicting the many-limbed Hindu goddess Durba as an airport metal detector. A member with Gupta of the so-called Bombay Boys, India's answer to the YBAs, Dodiya also forms one half of an estimable power couple with his wife, the artist Anju Dodiya.

Nalini Malani
One of India's most provocatively political artists, Malani draws on sources ranging from Lewis Carroll to Greek myths to address what she sees as political and intellectual stagnation in her country as well as India's hot-button nuclear program. One well-known 2003 work, Game Pieces, features an apocalyptic slideshow created by streaming light through rotating cylinders that display animal and human figures alternated with mushroom clouds.

Arpita Singh
A painter whose flattened and brightly colorful works suggest Matisse or Frida Kahlo gone Bollywood, Singh specializes in domestic scenes that provide an intimate glimpse of the interior lives of women, sometimes wryly, sometimes to tragic effect. Her enigmatic yet accessible oils, often featuring Giottoesque floating figures and scattered toys, have made her one of the most widely known artists in India.

M.F. Husain
At 91 years old the elder statesman of Indian art, Husain had worked steadily as a painter since the thirties, turning out a massive body of inventive work that has won him long-standing comparisons to Picasso. Despite his prominence in the country for so many years, Hussein had to flee into exile in Dubai after coming under fire from conservative critics in 1996 for a series of nude paintings of Hindu gods and goddesses — that he had made in the seventies. Last month a judge in New Delhi finally threw out an obscenity case lodged against Husain, declaring that the artist should return home and continue his work. In March a painting by Husain fetched $1.6 million at Christie's in New York amid protests from detractors camped outside the auction house.

Dennis Plans Comeback

Singer/songwriter CATHY DENNIS is to make a return to the spotlight after forming a new band called SEXCASSETTES.

The star gave up her own singing career after releasing her third album in 1996 - choosing instead to write hits for other artists.

Dennis achieved major international success in her songwriting career - penning Kylie Minogue's 1999 hit single Can't get You Out Of My Head and winning a Grammy Award for Britney Spears' Toxic.

But now the 39-year-old is planning her own comeback with a new girl group and a new album scheduled for later this year (08).

She says, "We're called the Sexcassettes and there's four of us. It's more of a live band thing and gives me the opportunity to write songs I couldn't get away with for other artists."

Graham Norton - Id Do Anything Girls Attempt To Build Bridges

The contestants on I'd Do Anything have stressed they back their rivals to rise to the challenge of playing Nancy in the West End.

The five remaining hopefuls on the BBC1 talent show had been quick to offer their views regarding the weakest performers in the group when quizzed a week ago but have now moved to emphasize their firm belief in each other's abilities.

Under questioning from host Graham Norton about the most likely contestants to be ejected from the competition both Jessie Buckley and Jodie Prenger had earmarked 17-year-old schoolgirl Niamh Perry as the girl least suited to playing the part of Nancy in Sir Cameron Mackintosh's upcoming revival of the Lionel Bart musical.

Buckley had said Perry was "better suited to a pop career" while Prenger described the Northern Irish contestant as "naive, so fragile".
But in an interview with the Daily Mail newspaper, Blackpool native Prenger dismissed the notion that she could not see the appeal of Perry, claiming: "I just pulled the name out of a hat. It was such a hard thing to do."

She added: "We've really bonded. We really are best friends."

Samantha Barks, a drama student from the Isle of Man, performed a similar turnaround in the interview, after saying on last week's show that Belfast singer Rachel Tucker was "so slick and polished".

When questioned about her views on Tucker a week later, Barks replied: "I don't think Rachel should go. I definitely think Rachel could be Nancy."

Buckley, however, firmly believes is capable of playing the part of the feisty EastEnder, saying: "They think I'm fragile, but I'm not."

She continued: "I speak my mind and don't let people walk all over me. It's irritating that people have a judgment because of my build.

"I don't want to change myself. I'm not going to put fake tan on. I'm not going to eat more. I'm who I am.

"[Sir] Andrew [Lloyd Webber] has said I could redefine the role, so that's what I want to do rather than be the stereotypical Nancy."
